“I highly recommend Georgia Politis for any opportunity were her exceptional creativity, dedication, and vision might contribute. Georgia’s work on the DiverCitySeries in Darwin is a testament to her incredible talent and her ability to celebrate the people who make a meaningful impact in their communities. As someone featured in the DiverCity Series under the profile "Stacee Barnes – Ovarian Cancer Survivor and Advocate," I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand Georgia’s thoughtful approach. Her dedication to highlighting diverse stories, including my journey as an ovarian cancer survivor and advocate, was both inspiring and deeply appreciated.
Ovarian cancer is an underfunded disease, often diagnosed too late, and awareness is crucial to making a difference. Georgia recognised this and ensured my story was shared with care and respect. The photoshoot she organised she did was wonderful. Georgia went above and beyond to make me feel appreciated for my six years of advocacy. She even sourced a stunning blue fabric, symbolic of ovarian cancer awareness. Her attention to detail and her commitment to honouring each individual’s was inspiring itself.
Her ability to connect with people, celebrate their contributions, and bring out the essence of their stories is a rare gift. I am incredibly proud to have been part of such a meaningful project, and I am honoured to have worked with someone as talented and compassionate as Georgian. Her passion and dedication truly shine through in everything she does, and the DiverCity Series is a reflection of the impact she continues to make in our community.” - Stacee Barnes, Series One Member
“In 2024, my longstanding friend Georgia Politis published a project book called Darwin City Series a collection of photo-essays reflecting Territorians – their cultures which they bring from across the globe. The project also captured each Territorians hardships, triumphs and how they have niched to call this place a loving home. I had the privilege in being documented in that project.
I felt the sense of accomplishment of one my NDIS goals. My goal was to link with the community members and find meaningful relationships, which the book was instrumental in facilitating. After the release of the book, I found myself on limelight and I genuinely felt valued and empowered. My photo-essay was read by many likeminded people and when l bumped into shopping complex, people easily recognised my name and wanted to have a photograph with me. Geogia had me a celebrity overnight. Thank you.
While documenting my story, I found Georgia professional and very easy to relate. She could understand the needs and was empathetic. In the exhibition of her project, I could not be (more) proud of her work. The way she beautifully wrote and documented lives of Territorians and of course mine. I was thrilled as people flipped over to go through my story whilst in the presence of me. Summing up, Georgia put a big smile on my face that reflects many happiness, and the book has certainly a long-term impact on the community as it is sure to leave its profound mark.” - Berna Timpaetua, Series One Member
The First Darwin DiverCITY Exhibition
The very first exhibition was held after four years in August of 2024. Originally expecting approximately 40 people, it was a pleasant surprise with over 250 people attending in the two hour opening. The following week then welcomed even more guests; both locals and tourists walking through.
The exhibition was free entry, including the opening. A fundraiser jar was placed at the entry for a DiverCITY Series member, Apryl Mitchell, to fundraise for her medical care; raising a few hundred dollars from guests attending the opening night. Over 100 books were sold for the series.
The exhibition was possible thanks to Activate Darwin; which covered the costs of the exhibition space inside the Galleria and the installation costs. The prints were self-funded by Georgia Politis, which were then gifted to each member if they wanted their copy. The catering and incidentals were covered by generous donations from a GoFundMe Page. The series was also heavily advertised by ABC, 104.1, 104.9 and our media partner; The Greek Herald Newspaper.
